Oiniades prepares for 5th annual Wine Festival

The region of Oiniades in Aetolia-Acarnania is preparing to host its 5th annual Wine Festival, celebrating a viticulture tradition deeply rooted in the area's history and natural abundance.

The region's fertility is linked to the Achelous River and ancient Greek mythology, specifically the myth of Hercules wrestling the river god Achelous. This myth is associated with the ‘Cornucopia of Amalthea’, a symbol of abundance gifted to the inhabitants. Historical accounts from figures such as Ovid and Diodorus Siculus describe the area as a fertile land rich in fruits and grapes, which has been a primary product of the Oiniades people for centuries, exported both within Greece and abroad.
