Oinofyta aluminum factory explosion injures two workers

An explosion occurred on Sunday afternoon at an aluminum processing plant in Oinofyta during maintenance work. The incident involved a residue suction machine, commonly referred to as a ‘vacuum,’ which exploded under unspecified conditions.

Two workers sustained injuries in the blast. One worker suffered burns to the face and hands, while a second worker sustained burns to the hands. Both individuals were transported to the hospital in Thiva for medical treatment.

Local reports indicated difficulties in securing immediate medical transport, noting that an ambulance from Chalkida was unavailable and the Oinofyta Health Center also lacked an available ambulance at the time. The fire department responded to the scene with four firefighters and two vehicles, though factory employees managed to contain the fire using extinguishers before further intervention was required. Representatives from the Boeotia Metal Union visited the facility and the hospital to support the injured workers.
