Oita authorities launch campaign to prevent railway crossing accidents

In conjunction with the Autumn National Traffic Safety Campaign, JR Kyushu and the Oita Prefectural Police conducted street awareness activities in front of Oita Station to prevent railway crossing accidents.

Authorities are urging drivers to come to a complete stop before crossing tracks and to immediately press the emergency stop button if a vehicle becomes unable to proceed within the crossing. According to JR Kyushu, Oita Prefecture has recorded 15 railway crossing incidents during the 2026 fiscal year, including a collision between a limited express train and a senior mobility scooter in Beppu City.
