Oita municipalities miscalculate nursing care insurance premiums

Fourteen municipalities in Oita Prefecture have reportedly made errors in collecting nursing care insurance premiums due to incorrect settings in their calculation systems.

Oita City reported that while the 2025 tax reform increased the salary income deduction from 550,000 yen to 650,000 yen, the 2026 nursing care insurance premiums were intended to be calculated using previous standards as an exception. However, the city's system was incorrectly configured using the standards for 2027 and beyond. This error resulted in 63 individuals being overcharged by a total of approximately 790,000 yen. The city has issued apology letters to those affected and plans to adjust the 2026 collection amounts to ensure accuracy while implementing measures to prevent recurrence.
