Oiti Ultra Trail cancelled following landslides and storms

The Oiti Ultra Trail, a 102-kilometer mountain running race, was officially cancelled following severe weather and landslides on Mount Oiti. The storm caused significant damage to mountain trails and the road network, blocking access for support vehicles, volunteers, and supply stations.

A major rescue operation was launched to evacuate the 126 participants. Eight runners were specifically identified as being stranded and sought shelter in huts in the Mavrotsoumaro area, with one athlete contacting emergency services via 112. Firefighting units from Phocis and Amfissa, along with the Municipality of Lamia using agricultural vehicles, assisted in the evacuation. All stranded runners were located and are reported to be in good health.

While the main long-distance race was called off, organizers announced that participants would have the opportunity to compete in the 16-kilometer ‘Eleboros’ alternative route. Cleanup efforts were scheduled to begin to clear debris from the roads and free immobilized support vehicles.
