OJ Simpson Bronco chase impact on US media history

The 1994 low-speed police chase of former NFL star OJ Simpson and Al Cowlings in a white Ford Bronco remains one of the most-watched television events in American history. The pursuit occurred on June 17, 1994, as Simpson was a suspect in the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

The event significantly impacted sports media consumption. During the 90-minute chase, viewership for the NBA Finals Game 5 between the New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets dropped sharply, as audiences across the country tuned in to watch the pursuit in Los Angeles instead of the championship game.
