OJK reviews pawnshop interest rates and monitors Gen Z online loan defaults

The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) is reviewing maximum interest rate limits, known as mu’nah, for the pawnshop industry. The agency aims to balance consumer protection with the industry's business sustainability. While rising central bank rates may impact companies using floating-rate funding, OJK expects no direct immediate impact on customer interest rates.

Separately, OJK reported that non-performing loans in the online lending sector are increasingly dominated by young people. Data from July 2026 shows that Gen Z (ages 19-34) accounts for 48.22% of total problematic outstanding loans, with males representing 54.22% of those cases. OJK is encouraging providers to improve credit scoring and risk management to address these trends.
