OJK prepares to oversee Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange

The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) is preparing for the takeover of supervision for the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange (BMKS). OJK aims to issue two key regulations by September 17, 2026, to facilitate the transition of supervisory authority from the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) and to establish the operational framework for the BMKS.

Sarjito is set to serve as the Chief Executive of BMKS supervision following his official inauguration by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. OJK has already established the necessary organizational structure, including Deputy Commissioners and Department Heads, to ensure immediate operational readiness once he takes office.

The BMKS is targeted to begin operations on January 1, 2027. While the OJK is finalizing its regulatory framework, specific details regarding trading mechanisms and the exact list of tradable commodities and derivatives are pending a Presidential Decree (Keppres) to define the exchange's scope.
