OJK reports challenges in returning scam victim funds in Indonesia

The Indonesia Anti-Scam Center (IASC), under the Financial Services Authority (OJK), has blocked 702,833 accounts suspected of involvement in financial fraud as of September 30, 2026. While the IASC successfully blocked approximately Rp825.2 billion to Rp852.2 billion in fraudulent funds, only about Rp206 billion to Rp207 billion has been returned to victims.

OJK Chairperson Friderica Widyasari Dewi noted that the primary obstacle to recovering funds is the speed at which perpetrators transfer money once it enters a fraudulent account. The IASC has processed reports involving over 1.37 million accounts and 173,718 suspicious phone numbers. Authorities urge victims to report incidents immediately through the official IASC portal to increase the chances of freezing funds before they are moved.
