OJK strengthens Indonesia's digital financial ecosystem and consumer protections
The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) is implementing several strategic initiatives to strengthen the digital financial ecosystem and protect consumers. In South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi, OJK has successfully expanded digital transactions, with QRIS adoption reaching 158,590 MSME merchants. Additionally, the Pinisi Food Access Credit program has distributed Rp1.18 trillion to over 34,600 debtors, primarily supporting the agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sectors.
To enhance consumer safety, OJK is developing an anti-scam application inspired by the QRIS model. This tool will allow users to verify the legality of financial companies and bank accounts before completing transactions. The authority is also promoting a ‘check before payment’ mindset to mitigate risks in the fast-paced digital economy.
Furthermore, OJK has tightened regulations for financial influencers through POJK Number 6 of 2026. Under these new rules, influencers must provide transparency regarding commissions and disclaimers, and are prohibited from making misleading claims such as guaranteeing certain profits. These measures aim to ensure that financial information shared online is accurate, honest, and does not mislead the public.
