Ojol drivers urge DPR to maintain work flexibility in Labor Protection Bill

The Komunitas Angkutan Ojek Online (KAJOL) Indonesia is urging the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to avoid standardizing the employment status of online motorcycle taxi drivers in the upcoming Labor Protection Bill (RUU Pelindungan Ketenagakerjaan).

KAJOL representatives argue that transitioning drivers from a partnership model to formal employees could eliminate the work hour flexibility that many drivers rely on. This flexibility is particularly vital for female drivers, many of whom are housewives balancing domestic duties, and part-time drivers who use the platform to supplement income from other jobs.

During an audience with Commission IX of the DPR, KAJOL representative Denis emphasized that a one-size-fits-all regulation would fail to account for the diverse backgrounds of drivers across eight provinces. The group is advocating for regulations that protect drivers without imposing binding work hours, durations, or targets that would disrupt their current ability to manage their own schedules.
