OK to establish 70 battery plants across Denmark
Energy company OK plans to establish a nationwide network of at least 70 battery plants across Denmark to address increasing pressure on the electrical grid. The initiative aims to store green, low-cost electricity from wind and solar sources to balance production and consumption without requiring new grid connections.
By utilizing existing grid capacity and locations, the project seeks to provide flexibility during rapid electrification. Once fully implemented, the battery network is expected to have a total capacity of approximately 60 MWh and an effect of about 30 MW, which could cover the daily electricity consumption of nearly 6,000 Danish households. The company expects to have the first 20 plants operational by the end of this year, with initial locations in Trustrup and Vester Lyby.
