Three athletes from the Central Okanagan region have been named finalists in the RBC Training Ground, the Canadian Olympic Committee’s official cross-country talent search.

Kelowna sprinter Kaylie Lofstrom, 16, and snowboard cross competitor Avlyn Smirl, 16, will join 15-year-old Jordynn Burford from Lake Country in the national finals held in Toronto next month. The finalists were selected from more than 3,000 participants aged 14 to 25 who competed in local qualifiers testing speed, strength, power, and endurance.

Athletics Canada coordinator Lauren Gale noted that Lofstrom is the youngest track athlete selected for the national final, highlighting her 100m and 200m times. Snowboard Canada’s Austin White identified Smirl as a top contender across three disciplines: Parallel Slalom, Parallel Giant Slalom, and Snowboard Cross.
