Okanagan districts announce water‑saving lawn contest and BC Trails Day festivities

The Regional District of Okanagan‑Similkameen (RDOS) launched the Stay Gold Water Conservation Contest on June 1, running through August 15. Residents are invited to let their lawns turn golden during the hot summer and submit photos for a chance to win cash prizes of $100, $50 and $25. Allen Fillion, RDOS Managing Director – Development and Infrastructure Services, said a dormant, “golden” lawn is an easy way to cut water use while still maintaining a tidy appearance and supporting drought resilience.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is celebrating BC Trails Day on June 6, coinciding with the release of its 2026 Summer Parks Program Guide. The district highlights more than 2,100 ha of parkland and over 80 km of trails, offering guided hikes, family activities and educational programs. Jill Hamilton, supervisor of community relations and visitor services, called the event a chance for people of all ages to reconnect with the region’s trail network.
