Okanagan Indian Band flag raised at Coldstream Cenotaph

The Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) and the District of Coldstream held a ceremony on September 29, 2026, to mark the permanent raising of the OKIB flag at Coldstream’s Cenotaph Park.

The ceremony took place the day before National Truth and Reconciliation Day. The OKIB flag will now fly alongside the Canadian, British Columbia, and District of Coldstream flags. The initiative recognizes the enduring presence of the syilx people in their traditional ancestral territory and their deep connection to the land.

Chief Dan Wilson noted that the flag serves as an important recognition of the OKIB people's history in the region, including their service and sacrifices during both World Wars. The event aimed to strengthen the relationship between the two communities and reflect on the ongoing work of truth and reconciliation.
