Okanagan Indian Band lifts partial evacuation near Vernon

The Okanagan Indian Band has partially rescinded evacuation orders for residents affected by the Bradley Creek wildfire near Vernon. As of 5 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, the blaze has been brought under control, allowing residents at various addresses on Westside Road and Ta Ta Tlux Road to return to their homes.

Authorities advise returning residents to exercise extreme caution. Potential hazards include smoke, soot, ash, structural damage, fallen power lines, and unstable buildings. The band recommends using N95 masks for protection against fine particles, replacing furnace or air conditioner filters, and using HEPA-equipped vacuums for ash cleanup. Residents are also urged to inspect food safety, particularly refrigerated or frozen items that may have been compromised during power outages.
