Okanagan Lake boaters rescue exhausted bear cub
Boaters rescued an exhausted bear cub from the middle of Okanagan Lake on Saturday, Sept. 12. Christina Zamniuk and her family noticed the cub in the water while heading towards Adventure Bay.
The cub appeared to be struggling, paddling only with its front paws. The group used a rope to pull the shivering, cold animal onto the back platform of their boat. After the cub dried off, the family provided it with Cheetos.
Following instructions from the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, the family avoided touching the animal and worked to get it to shore to release it. While the family expressed concern regarding the cub's survival without its mother, conservation officers advised letting it go to find its own way.
