Okanagan Lake search for missing paddleboarder suspended

The search for a missing paddleboarder on Okanagan Lake has been suspended following an extensive operation involving water, air, and ground crews. The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 22, when a man and a woman were reported in distress on paddleboards between Fintry Provincial Park and Carr’s Landing.

While a Kelowna Fire Boat successfully rescued the woman, the man was not located at the scene. Although his paddleboard was recovered, the individual remains missing. Search efforts included the use of helicopters, drones, K9 units, and teams from Vernon and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue.

Investigators believe high winds may have knocked the man off his board. It is also noted that the pair were reportedly not wearing personal flotation devices or paddleboard leashes. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is currently assessing next steps for the investigation.
