Okayama University to host exhibition on Shikata Ruins and 1950s history
Okayama University’s Institute for Civilization Dynamics will host its second special exhibition, ‘Shikata Ruins and 1950s Okayama,’ at the Okayama City Museum from September 18 to November 23, 2026.
The exhibition is divided into two parts. The first section focuses on the Shikata Ruins located beneath the Okayama University Shikata Campus, exploring the site’s history from the Yayoi period through the modern era. The second section features color photographs taken in 1952 by the University of Michigan’s Japan Research Institute, Okayama Branch, showcasing the cityscape, industry, and daily life of Okayama during its post-war reconstruction period.
Accompanying events include commemorative lectures, public courses, and gallery talks scheduled throughout the exhibition period.
