Okayama’s Shinjo Village Waterfalls and Niimi’s Manki Cave Highlight Summer Cooling Spots

In Okayama Prefecture, Shinjo Village offers two contrasting waterfalls known locally as the “Male Falls” and “Female Falls.” The Male Falls drop about 40 metres with a strong flow, while the Female Falls are a gentle 5‑metre cascade. Nearby, the spring water at Yadoro provides cold, year‑round flow that residents say can replace an air‑conditioner, saying, “Even in summer it feels cold.”

Also in Okayama, the natural‑monument Manki Cave in Niimi City attracts visitors seeking relief from the heat. The cave maintains a temperature of around 15 °C throughout the year, stretches roughly 450 metres, and is illuminated with colorful LED lights that highlight stalactites and a bridge over an underground lake. Visitors describe the experience as “cool and very healing,” noting the “colorful light on the bridge” as a memorable feature. Both sites are promoted as ideal summer escaping spots amid the ongoing heat wave.
