Okazaki City Museum of Art reopens after two-year renovation

The Okazaki City Museum of Art has officially reopened following a two-year renovation project. Marking its 30th anniversary since its original opening in 1996, the museum resumed operations on July 4, 2026.

To celebrate the reopening, the museum is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Windows: That Which Intervenes’ (Mado: Soko ni Kaizai suru mono). The exhibition features items from the museum’s permanent collection alongside pieces borrowed from local temples and shrines. Notable items include a plaque formerly displayed at Shuri Castle’s North Hall, which was destroyed in a 2019 fire. The reconstruction of Shuri Castle is expected to be completed in November 2026.
