Okinawa Eisa performances resume following typhoon disruptions

Typhoon No. 18 caused disruptions to traditional Kyubon festival activities in Okinawa, though local celebrations have continued. On August 25, the first day of the festival (Unkee), scheduled Eisa performances were canceled due to the storm's impact, which brought intense winds and heavy seas to the Daito Islands and Okinawa mainland.

By August 26, the Minamitohara Youth Association in Okinawa City was able to proceed with their 'dojunee'—a traditional street parade. Approximately 40 members performed powerful Eisa dances through the Minamitohara area, featuring large and small drums to welcome ancestral spirits. Despite the weather-related delays, local residents expressed relief and joy at seeing the traditional performances resume.
