Okinawa sacred site calendar to be released by Sekai Bunka Sha
Sekai Bunka Sha will release the ‘Katei Gahou Beautiful Scenery Okinawa Sacred Site Calendar 2027’ on September 1, 2026. The calendar features twelve months of photography documenting sacred natural sites and places of prayer traditionally cherished by the people of Okinawa.
The project is a collaboration between photographer and Okinawa ancient history researcher Soke, who captured landscapes often inaccessible to typical tourists, and essayist and numerology researcher Tomoko. In addition to scenic photography of the ocean, sky, and forests, the calendar includes columns explaining the origins and cultural backgrounds of each site.
Designed for practical use, the calendar incorporates the lunar calendar, auspicious days, and moon phases (full and new moons). The final pages feature ‘Kugani Kutuba’, which are traditional Okinawan words of wisdom reflecting local values and spirituality.
