Oklahoma man dies after vehicle collides with feral hogs

Roger Gregory Cummings, a 63-year-old retired lumberman, died following a vehicle collision with a pack of feral hogs in Stephens County, Oklahoma. The incident occurred late Wednesday night approximately 90 miles south of Oklahoma City.

According to collision reports, Cummings struck a group of roughly ten wild pigs, causing him to swerve into a ditch and hit a fence. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol noted that Cummings was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. During the attempt to maneuver the vehicle, Cummings was thrown from the car, which then rolled onto its side and pinned him underneath. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cummings had recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary and his retirement from Marlow Lumber Company, where he had worked for over four decades. Local officials and employers noted the tragedy, highlighting that while wildlife encounters are common in the region, fatal accidents are infrequent. Feral swine have been documented in 70 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties, with high concentrations in southern Oklahoma.
