Oklahoma National Guardsman arrested in D.C. for carrying unauthorized pistol

Jakob Noonan, a 22-year-old specialist with the Oklahoma National Guard, has been arrested in Washington, D.C., on felony firearms charges. The arrest occurred following a traffic stop by U.S. Park Police after officers noticed an expired vehicle registration.

During the stop, Noonan reportedly informed officers that he was carrying a firearm. According to court documents, Noonan was traveling in a personal vehicle with a fellow Guard member and was off duty at the time. He stated that the 9mm Canik pistol was registered to him in Oklahoma, an open-carry state, but acknowledged he did not hold a valid concealed-carry permit for the District of Columbia.

Noonan is part of a larger National Guard deployment in the capital, an operation initiated by President Donald Trump in August 2025. This incident marks the second arrest of a task force member in the last two months. The deployment has faced criticism from local officials and residents regarding its necessity and cost.
