Oklahoma Sooners upset No. 1 Texas in Red River Rivalry
The unranked Oklahoma Sooners secured a dramatic 27-24 upset victory over the No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns in the 122nd Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl. The game was decided in the final seconds when Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell converted a 47-yard field goal as time expired.
Key moments included a blocked Texas punt recovered for a touchdown by Oklahoma’s Dakoda Fields and critical turnovers by Texas quarterback Arch Manning. Despite Texas outgaining Oklahoma in both passing and rushing yards, the Sooners capitalized on special teams errors and defensive stops to seal the win.
Following the victory, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables was named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week. Venables also addressed his team in a postgame speech, urging them to ‘block out the noise’ and maintain belief in their program after facing significant scrutiny earlier in the season. The win marks Oklahoma’s first victory over a No. 1 ranked opponent since 2007.
