Oktoberfest 2026: Emergency responders receive specialized self-defense training
Emergency responders for the 2026 Oktoberfest have undergone specialized self-defense training to protect themselves from violent visitors. Aicher Ambulanz announced that 70 paramedics received this training on the festival grounds to prepare for increasingly dangerous medical calls.
The training, described as a ‘Wiesn-Spezial-Training’, focused on realistic scenarios, including defense against improvised weapons such as sticks or beer mugs, as well as the legal principles of self-defense. This measure follows data from the 2025 festival, where police recorded 784 crimes, including 24 incidents of physical altercations involving beer mugs.
The 191st Oktoberfest is set to open on September 19, with hundreds of Aicher Ambulanz staff deployed to provide medical care for the approximately seven million expected visitors at the Theresienwiese.
