Oktoberfest 2026 in Munich prepares for 6 million visitors

The 191st Oktoberfest is set to begin in Munich on September 19, with approximately six million visitors expected over the 16-day event. This year marks a significant change in leadership as Munich's new Mayor, Dominik Krause, will perform the traditional ceremonial keg tapping at the Schottenhamel tent, subsequently serving the first beer to Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder.

Economic and safety updates include a rise in beer prices, with a liter (Maß) now costing between 14.80 and 15.90 euros. To mitigate costs, organizers have provided free drinking water fountains across the grounds. Security measures have also been tightened, including a ban on champagne showers to prevent disruptive behavior. Additionally, a dedicated 'Safe Space' remains available to provide support and counseling for women facing harassment.

Weather forecasts from the DWD suggest a moderate start with temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius and mostly cloudy but dry conditions. Visitors are advised that while entry to the main grounds is free, certain areas like the Oide Wiesn require a small fee.
