Oktoberfest food prices: Lángos costs in Munich compared to Hungary
At the Munich Oktoberfest, traditional Hungarian lángos is being offered in 11 different variations. Prices for the snack range from 7 euros for a salted version to 12 euros for premium varieties, such as those featuring truffle-garlic cream. The classic cheese and sour cream lángos is priced at 8 euros.
While these nominal prices may seem high compared to standard Hungarian costs, a comparison with major Hungarian festivals shows a different trend. For instance, at the Sziget Festival in Hungary, the same cheese and sour cream lángos was priced at 3,500 forints, which exceeds the 8-euro Munich price when converted. At Lake Balaton, prices for the snack typically range between 1,850 and 2,800 forints.
Other items at the Munich festival include chimney cakes for 9 euros and beer, which remains the most expensive category, with one-liter mugs costing between 14.80 and 15.90 euros. When adjusted for purchasing power parity, the cost of consumption in Germany reflects the higher economic standards of the region compared to Hungary.
