Oktoberfest in Munich sees luxury food and high hotel prices
The Oktoberfest in Munich is seeing extreme price variations, ranging from budget-friendly snacks to high-end luxury items. At Käfers Wiesnschänke, a 500-gram portion of caviar served with blinis and potato foam costs 1,850 euros. Other premium options include Wagyu beef for 410 euros and tuna steaks for 179 euros.
In contrast, visitors can find more affordable options by comparing vendors. Some stands offer double the amount of roasted almonds for the same price, while fish rolls can be found for as little as three euros. Traditional items like half a chicken and duck also vary in price across different tents.
Accommodation costs are also surging. Due to high demand and automated booking systems using AI to adjust rates in real-time, some small single rooms are being priced as high as 999 euros per night.
Health experts have also addressed the phenomenon of the ‘Wiesn-flu,’ a term for respiratory infections common during the festival. While Vitamin C is often promoted for prevention, medical experts note that scientific evidence does not support its ability to prevent colds in the general population, suggesting instead that adequate sleep and hygiene are more effective.
