Oktoberfest hosts support anti-racism initiative by service staff
The Association of Munich Oktoberfest Hosts has expressed support for the ‘Bedienungen gegen rechts’ (Servers Against the Right) initiative. The group of service staff launched a social media campaign, including a video on Instagram, to promote diversity, tolerance, and respect at the world’s largest folk festival.
Spokespeople for the hosts, Peter Inselkammer and Christian Schottenhamel, stated that the association rejects all forms of racism and sexism within the festival tents and will report such violations to authorities. While supporting the stance against discrimination, the association noted it would refrain from explicit political statements, citing festival regulations that prohibit political events in the tents.
The initiative seeks a collective stand against extremism, racism, and exclusion, arguing that the festival must represent more than just tradition. Participants in the campaign highlighted a growing concern regarding the normalization of extremist rhetoric in society.
