Oktoberfest implements battery storage to prevent power outages

To prevent power outages during the Munich Oktoberfest, three large-scale Tesvolt battery storage systems have been deployed to manage peak electricity demands in major festival tents.

Following power failures in the Löwenbräu and Pschorr-Bräurosl tents last year, organizers are using these batteries to buffer load spikes. The increased demand is attributed to a shift from gas to electric appliances and the use of high-power outdoor heaters. While the Stadtwerke München provides a connection capacity of approximately 420 kW per large tent, actual demand during peak times can exceed 500 kW.

The Tesvolt Forton systems act as peak shavers rather than emergency generators, providing additional power within milliseconds if demand exceeds capacity. The installation includes two 92 kWh units for the Pschorr-Bräurosl tent and one 92 kWh unit for the Löwenbräu tent. This setup provides a buffer that allows operators time to reduce electrical loads, such as kitchen equipment, to prevent total system failures.
