Oktoberfest hosts first explicit lesbian event in Munich

A new queer event titled ‘Bier, Boobs, Brezn’ was held at the Munich Oktoberfest, specifically designed for lesbian women and Flinta individuals (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender). Approximately 700 participants gathered in the ‘Bräurosl’ festival tent for the premiere event.

Organizers Sina Scherer and Silke Völling of ‘Lost Girls’ stated the event was created to address a lack of visibility for the lesbian community at the festival. While the traditional ‘Gay Sunday’ (Rosa Sonntag) has existed for over 40 years, it has historically been dominated by gay men. Scherer noted that many previous meeting spaces for lesbian women in Munich, such as those in the Glockenbachviertel, have disappeared, prompting the decision to create their own space within the broader municipal society of the Oktoberfest.
