Olancho FC President Samuel García criticizes Honduran football corruption

Samuel García, president of the Honduran football club Olancho FC, has issued strong criticisms regarding the state of football in Honduras, citing widespread corruption and systemic failures.

Initially, García announced his intention to withdraw from Honduran football and put the club's category up for sale. He cited corruption within various sectors, including refereeing, the national league, betting houses, certain players, coaches, and the football federation. He also accused some media outlets of acting on economic interests.

Following his initial announcement, García clarified that his primary goal was not necessarily the sale of the club, but rather to highlight the consequences of losing investors due to the current environment. He described the state of Honduran football as a “shame” and a “tragedy,” pointing to the national team's failure to qualify for a World Cup for 12 years. He further alleged that the National Football Federation of Honduras continues to be managed by the same actors despite structural changes.
