Spanish Football Federation sets 2026‑27 league groups and referee promotions

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has released the detailed group allocations for the 2026‑27 season across its senior men’s competitions. In Primera RFEF, Algeciras CF, Reus FCR, UD Ourense, Pontevedra CF and other clubs learned their group‑2 or group‑1 opponents, confirming the geographic balance of the two 20‑team groups. The federation also published the composition of the five Segunda RFEF groups, each with 18 clubs, and the final roster of the Tercera RFEF Group X, highlighting the presence of four Córdoba‑province teams. In parallel, the Comité Técnico de Árbitros announced the promotion of four referees—Jon Ander González Esteban, Carlos Muñiz Muñoz, Lluís Bestard Servera and Manuel Jesús Orellana—to LaLiga for the 2026‑27 campaign, and confirmed Olatz Rivera as the second woman ever to officiate a LaLiga match. The report also noted the retirement of Pablo González Fuertes from the VAR panel. All these decisions aim to balance competition, reduce travel costs and modernise the officiating body for the upcoming season.
