Olavarría opens Human Milk Collection Center

On Thursday the municipality of Olavarría inaugurated a Human Milk Collection Center in the maternity sector of Hospital Municipal Dr. Héctor Cura. The ceremony was led by Mayor Maximiliano Wesner and attended by health officials and representatives of the Rotary Club San Vicente, which supplied the necessary equipment.

The new center joins the Buenos Aires province network of milk banks and will operate Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to receive donated milk. Collected milk will be transferred to the Human Milk Bank at Hospital San Martín de La Plata for analysis, pasteurization and distribution to preterm or otherwise vulnerable newborns. Hospital neonatology staff, including Dr. Florencia Golinelli, described the facility as “a bridge between mothers who have excess milk and babies who need it,” while coordinator Yésica Wilt emphasized that the milk serves as a vital medical resource for premature infants. A training session for health professionals is scheduled for Friday.
