Old Farmer's Almanac predicts winter cold snaps for Louisiana

The Old Farmer's Almanac has released its winter outlook, suggesting that El Niño may influence weather patterns in the Gulf South. While the general forecast calls for warmer and drier conditions, the Almanac identifies three significant departures from this trend that could bring colder, wetter, and snowier weather to the region.

During an El Niño period, sea surface temperatures in the tropical Pacific Ocean rise above seasonal norms, causing the jet stream to shift southward. This shift can move storm tracks further south, potentially increasing storm activity along the Gulf Coast. If wet weather systems coincide with frigid temperatures, the region could experience ice and snow.
