Old Mutual expands Namibia school furniture initiative to N$1.5 million
The Old Mutual Foundation has expanded its Chair and Desk Initiative with a N$1.5 million commitment to address classroom furniture shortages in Namibia. This represents an increase from the N$1 million allocated in previous years.
The initiative will support 12 schools across the Oshikoto, Omusati, Ohangwena, and Otjozondjupa regions, directly benefiting more than 2,000 learners. Beneficiary schools include Ondera Combined, Onamishu Combined, and Nehale Secondary in Oshikoto; Holden Uulenga Combined, Jerry Ekandjo Combined, and Uahekua Herunga Primary in Omusati; Ondobe Secondary, Nanghonda Combined, and Elakalapwa Combined in Ohangwena; and Okondjatu Combined, Tsumkwe Secondary, and Osire Primary in Otjozondjupa.
The program integrates infrastructure support with skills development by partnering with vocational training centers. These institutions manufacture new furniture and repair existing pieces, providing practical learning opportunities for vocational students. All manufacturing, refurbishment, and deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of February 2027.
