Old Skopje Bazaar reconstruction enters final phase

The reconstruction of a significant portion of the Old Skopje Bazaar is entering its final phase. The project, which covers an area of 1,567 square meters, involves an investment exceeding 28 million denars.

According to Izet Mediti, the Mayor of Chair Municipality, the initiative aims to modernize the historical and cultural site's infrastructure after more than five decades without major intervention. The works include upgrading underground and above-ground systems, such as water supply, sewage, electrical installations, and optical fiber networks.

To preserve the area's traditional architectural character, the project features the restoration of cobblestone streets using travertine stone, the installation of traditional-style lighting, and improved pedestrian surfaces. The revitalization specifically covers Samardžiska Street and five smaller sections within the bazaar, intended to benefit residents, artisans, and visitors while maintaining the site's authentic identity.
