Oldenburg lake discovery: Decades-old car wreck recovered
An angler using sonar equipment discovered a decades-old car wreck at the bottom of the Großer Bornhorster See in Oldenburg, Germany. Authorities believe the vehicle was submerged in either the 1970s or 1980s.
Police divers conducted a recovery operation on Monday, utilizing an oil barrier to prevent environmental contamination as some fluids leaked during the process. Investigators stated there are no indications of criminal activity, and any potential theft-related charges would have expired due to the statute of limitations.
The vehicle has been handed over to the city of Oldenburg for disposal and is expected to be scrapped.
