Oldham Roughyeds defeat Midlands Hurricanes in play-off win
The Oldham Roughyeds secured a 46-16 victory over the Midlands Hurricanes in a Championship play-off knockout match, marking the club’s first second-tier play-off win in 24 years.
Oldham established an early lead driven by the performance of their pack, specifically Ted Chapelhow, who scored two tries from close range following passes from Josh Drinkwater. While the Hurricanes managed to score through Aidan McGowan, Oldham responded quickly with a try from Jake Bibby following a 50-metre break by Matty Wildie.
Oldham’s defensive focus, emphasized in preparation for the match, limited the Hurricanes to 16 points. Additional scoring contributions came from Jack Walker, who scored a try directly from a scrum. With this win, the Roughyeds advance to an away clash against the Widnes Vikings, placing them just two victories away from the Championship Grand Final.
