Oldham Roughyeds defeat Salford 36-28 behind Ashurst hat-trick

Oldham Roughyeds secured a 36-28 victory over Salford at Boundary Park, marking their first league double over the side since the 1994/95 season. Matty Ashurst was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick to lead the comeback.

Salford initially took control of the match, establishing a 16-6 lead. The visitors capitalized on Oldham’s early errors, including a loose pass that allowed Joe Hartley to score the opening try. Salford extended their advantage through scores from Charlie Glover and Kieran Dixon, aided by effective kick-offs that pressured the Oldham defense.

Despite the early deficit and a period of inconsistent play characterized by knock-ons and inaccurate passing, Oldham regained momentum through their pack. Ashurst’s three tries and successful penalty kicks, alongside a try from Bayley Liu, allowed Oldham to overcome the deficit and secure the win.
