Ole Miss football faces defensive crisis after loss to Florida
The Ole Miss Rebels suffered their first loss of the season following a 52-28 defeat to the Florida Gators. The loss highlighted significant defensive vulnerabilities, particularly against the run, as Florida recorded 302 rushing yards.
Head coach Pete Golding characterized the performance as unacceptable, noting that the team has struggled with run defense throughout the season. Ole Miss currently allows the most rushing yards in the SEC, averaging 194.75 per game. Golding indicated that the upcoming bye week will serve as a critical period for self-reflection and potential personnel changes to address these issues.
Defensive tackle Will Echoles emphasized a need to return to a more instinctual and physical style of play, citing a lack of violence on film. Golding stated that the coaching staff must evaluate the roster to ensure players are performing consistently, noting that the current defensive product is not sufficient.
