Ole Miss coach denies formal FBI bug sweep after Lane Kiffin departure

Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding has downplayed claims that the FBI was formally hired to conduct a bug sweep of the football program's facilities following Lane Kiffin’s departure to LSU.

The controversy stems from comments made by Walker Jones, executive director of the Grove Collective, who stated on a podcast that the program sought assistance to ensure sensitive information was not being intercepted. Jones described a high level of paranoia, noting that staff members had to use separate text threads and meetings to prevent information from reaching LSU.

Golding clarified that there was no official hiring process for a federal sweep. He suggested that the presence of an FBI official in the building likely resulted from a current player’s father, who works for the bureau and lives in the area, checking in during a period of heightened security. Golding noted that security is naturally increased during high-stakes postseason runs.
