Indonesia and Malaysia draw 0-0 in FIFA ASEAN Cup Group A clash
The Indonesia national football team drew 0-0 against Malaysia in their second Group A match of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium. The match was marked by a significant turning point in the 37th minute when Thom Haye received a direct red card following a VAR review for a challenge on Malaysia's Arif Aiman.
Despite playing with 10 men for over 60 minutes, Indonesia maintained a disciplined defense. Goalkeeper Maarten Paes and defender Elkan Baggott were credited with several crucial saves and clearances to prevent Malaysia from capitalizing on their numerical advantage. Malaysia controlled much of the possession, but failed to convert their opportunities into goals.
Following the match, Indonesia captain Kevin Diks expressed disappointment regarding some spectators chanting for former coach Shin Tae-yong, stating it was “not good for the players and not good for the coach.” Coach John Herdman noted that while the red card was a challenge, the team's ability to fight together showed great character. Both teams currently sit on four points in Group A, with Malaysia leading on goal difference.
