OLED market shifts as microdisplay demand grows and supply chain moves to China

The global OLED market is undergoing significant structural shifts. The OLED microdisplay market is projected to grow from $356.25 million in 2023 to $2.56 billion by 2032, driven by a 24.51% CAGR. This growth is fueled by demand for high-definition, compact displays in AR/VR, smart glasses, and medical or industrial wearable devices.

Simultaneously, the OLED material supply chain is shifting toward China. While the global emissive materials market grew 7.1% in 2025 to $2.2 billion, established suppliers like Universal Display and DS Neolux have seen stagnant or declining revenues. China has surpassed Korea as the market leader, accounting for over 50% of global OLED material consumption by customer country in 2025. Chinese panel makers are increasingly sourcing from domestic material suppliers, with local market share expected to rise from 33% in 2024 to between 43% and 46% by 2029.

In the panel sector, Visionox reported a 2.85% revenue decline to 4 billion RMB ($595 million USD) for the first half of 2026. The company cited a weak smartphone market, falling panel prices, and rising component costs as primary factors, resulting in a net loss of $260 million. Visionox plans to implement cost-reduction measures and increase production line utilization to improve efficiency.
