Oleh Plotnytskyi criticizes FIVB decision on Russia's return to volleyball

Ukrainian volleyball leader Oleh Plotnytskyi has criticized the FIVB's decision to allow Russian teams to participate in the 2027 Volleyball Nations League. Plotnytskyi described the move as “unimaginably stupid,” questioning what has changed since the initial exclusion of Russian teams following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

He noted that Russia's high world ranking, despite a lack of official competition, creates an unfair advantage and facilitates their path to the Los Angeles Olympics. While the FIVB is moving forward with the 2027 League by expanding to 19 teams and implementing anti-doping controls, Plotnytskyi praised Poland for its firm stance regarding the 2027 World Championships.

Due to pressure from the Polish Volleyball Federation and the Polish government, the Russian federation has voluntarily withdrawn from the 2027 World Championships hosted by Poland. Plotnytskyi credited Poland's position as host—which involves managing security and visa guarantees—as a key factor in preventing Russia's participation in that specific tournament.
