Oleksandr Syrskyi claims Russia's offensive capability is broken

In his first interview since being removed from his post, former Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Ukraine has stabilized the front line and broken Russia's ability to advance. He attributed this stalemate to technological advancements, Ukrainian strategies targeting weak points, and significant Russian casualties.

Syrskyi claimed that Russia's overall losses are six times higher than Ukraine's, and if counting only fatalities, the ratio is as high as 11 to 1. While official figures are not released by either side, British intelligence estimates Russia has lost approximately 500,000 soldiers killed since the 2022 invasion. Meanwhile, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimates Ukrainian fatalities reached up to 150,000 by June 2026.

Regarding territorial changes, Syrskyi noted that Russia seized only 61 square kilometers in the first six months of 2026. This trend was corroborated by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which reported that in September 2026, Moscow lost more territory than it gained.
