Oleksii Reznikov proposes mobilizing women to double Ukraine's military resources
Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has proposed that military service obligations should extend to all citizens, including women, to potentially double the country’s mobilization resources. Reznikov suggested that women could take over various logistical and support roles in the rear, allowing men currently in those positions to be moved closer to the front lines. He cited Israel as a successful model where women serve in the military.
To implement this strategy, Reznikov noted that the Verkhovna Rada would need to amend existing legislation to establish universal conscription based on gender equality. He emphasized the need for an information campaign to prepare society for such a shift before legal changes are enacted.
Separately, reports indicate that the European Commission has clarified that decisions regarding temporary protection do not distinguish between men and women when it comes to individuals subject to military duty. This follows discussions regarding the use of the ‘Rezerv+’ application for conscription data.
