Oleksij Yukow, leader of soldier recovery group Plazdarm, has died
Oleksij Yukow, the leader of the organization Plazdarm, died on August 5. Yukow dedicated his work to the recovery and identification of fallen soldiers from both sides of the conflict in Ukraine.
Through his organization, which translates to ‘Operations Base’, Yukow and his team searched through forests and battlefields, such as those near Klishchiivka, to find documents, identification marks, and personal items. His mission was to ensure that the deceased could be identified so their names could be returned to their families, allowing for proper burials.
Yukow was noted for maintaining a sense of humanity amidst the war, often focusing on the importance of allowing families, particularly mothers, to bury their relatives.
